Music Cities

I can't believe graduation is so soon! My time at Full Sail flew by. In just a few short weeks I'll have completed and presented my business plan, graduated with a Master's degree, and will start the job hunt. It's scary yet very exciting. When I think about the music industry and where I fit into it, I first think of the location. I know NYC and LA are the big ones, but I just don't see myself there (not yet anyway). So where?

Nashville has always been in back of my mind. It seems like the perfect fit for so many different reasons. A music city that is close to home (Kentucky). I have always thought of Nashville as the place where the best music has been discovered and showcased. I stumbled upon a great article a few days ago that has really helped me think about my future career, and where it could potentially be located. Check it out!

"The Geography of America's Music Scenes" is a self explanatory article that lists Nashville as the #1 music city! A quote from the article that I particularly liked was "But size is not everything, as Nashville's dominance and the performance of other smaller metros show. Smaller places can develop significant clusters of musicians and the music industry. The key here, as it is in so many other fields, is the clustering of talent, as talented musicians are drawn to and cluster around other talented musicians." I couldn't agree more, size is not everything in the music industry and I couldn't be more happy about that. I'm not so sure I have what it takes to survive NYC just yet, but Nashville, yes please!

Other cities that made the list that I would enjoy moving to were: Seattle, Portland, Denver, and even Louisville, KY! I used to live in Lexington, which is only an hour away from Louisville. Both cities are unique when it comes to their music scenes, and I was pleased to see that one of them made the list!

When you think of the music industry, and your favorite kind of music, what city do you think of?
