Things To Look Forward To

Hello everyone! As you know, tomorrow is another album release Tuesday! A lot of other albums are coming out within the next few months that you should be aware of, as well as a long list of great artists coming to the Orlando area soon that you'll want to check out.

Music Cities

I can't believe graduation is so soon! My time at Full Sail flew by. In just a few short weeks I'll have completed and presented my business plan, graduated with a Master's degree, and will start the job hunt. It's scary yet very exciting. When I think about the music industry and where I fit into it, I first think of the location. I know NYC and LA are the big ones, but I just don't see myself there (not yet anyway). So where?

Bonnaroo Recap

I don't know about you, but I've had the Bonnaroo blues lately reading all of the reviews and seeing the great photos of my favorite bands playing to music lovers alike. I mean, just look at the Bonnaroo lineup! When I started to search for any and every Bonnaroo recap I could find, I noticed something. On one hand, it was cool and exciting to read the music industry's side of things, for example Paste Magazine's list of the top 10 moments this year. On the other hand, I realized not everyone that went this year got to see all of those things; they had different experiences that aren't found on sites like pitchfork and other music sites and blogs. I decided to look at my Facebook newsfeed to see if I could get a good review there, but all I found were pictures of my friends at their campsites so I decided to interview a friend of mine, Janelle Hougland, who attended the festival to get a firsthand recap of Bonnaroo 2012.

Have you ever watched an artist or a band grow and evolve? I've watched it happen numerous times as a fan of all kinds of music. For example John Mayer, when he first came out with the song "No Such Thing" I was in high school and in that song he sang about running through the halls of his high school. As a fan, it was as if I grew with John Mayer. As I got older and matured, his music was doing the same thing album after album. The same thing happened with the band Fun.

Tuesday is my new favorite day!

I recently learned why it is that albums are released on Tuesdays. For a long time, I guess I never questioned it until taking a class on publishing and distribution and I wondered, why Tuesday?

The Fall Back

Hey Readers, I am excited to update you on some exciting music news! Remember Bridge 19? They just released an album titled "The Fall Back" and had a few release shows to celebrate and promote!

William Fitzsimmons

I am very excited to share an interview I had with the one and only, William Fitzsimmons! I got to see him play for the third time a few months ago at the To Write Love On Her Arms event at the House of Blues in Orlando. After the show I caught up with William Fitzsimmons. The last time I had talked to him was when I saw him in Kentucky, where we talked about our mutual love for UK basketball and psychology. I was excited to tell him I left the psychology world, one of which he is very familiar with, to study music business at Full Sail University. He agreed to answer some questions for my blog, isn't he the best?

Cotton Club

Full Sail University put on the Cotton Club showcase and beat battle in the FS Live building. Here is picture of Kelvin, Mo, Angel, and I at the show! You can read more about it here. 

The Radio Biz

For this blog I interviewed my aunt, Stacy Yelton, who has been in radio for 31 years now. She currently works at WUKY, an NPR affiliated radio station at the University of Kentucky. WUKY was the first university-owned FM radio station in the country, as well as Kentucky's first public radio Station. Stacy was one of the reasons I had the courage to pursue an education in the music business and I keep in contact with her often about what I'm learning here at Full Sail. I had asked her to think about how negotiation fit into her daily routine at work, and a few days later we talked on the phone.

Hello readers! Guess what day it is? It's another lovely day full of new albums released into the world and I couldn't be happier. I literally just got home from my favorite record store in Orlando, Park Ave CD's, and I can't wait to dive into these new albums with you.

A New Year of Music

Happy New Year everyone! I hope you all rang in the New Year with good music playing, as 2012 should be a great year for music (in my opinion). This post may seem all over the place, but I have a lot to share with you guys. Let's start off with how exciting the Grammys this year will be, especially for indie artists!
